Getting here:
Healing Waters Lodge is located 45 minutes west of the intersection of Interstates 81 and 64 east.
If you will be arriving by air, there are three airports in the region: Shenandoah, Charlottesville, and Roanoke. We can help with transport to the lodge, bike rental or reassemly, etc. – please contact us to discuss your needs.
Rural Road Safety:
If you've never ridden on rural roads, you are in for a treat! There are some specific safety aspects which we will review before departing for the first days ride.
Join us for a fun cycling weekend in Highland County, VA – also known as “Virginia’s Little Switzerland”.
We'll be based at Healing Waters Lodge, a fully renovated Civil War era cabin, with all the presentday amenities.

Day 2: (50.1 miles)
Ride into West Virginia (only a mile away from the lodge) down rural country roads and through small quaint villages.

Lunch will be waiting for you in West Virginia, before you continue on, enjoying unspoiled views of mountains and farmland as you get a feel for what the valleys of Switzerland are like.
Day 3: (56.2 miles or 35 miles)

Ride through McDowell (where Stonewall Jackson began his Shenandoah Valley Campaign in 1862) to Williamsville Gorge where a picnic lunch awaits.
You have three options for the afternoon: two beautiful routes back – one paved, one hardpacked gravel, or shuttle back to the lodge for an afternoon massage.

Day 4: (14 - 32 mile optional)
You have a choice of a short morning ride, a hike or just a relaxing morning before your departure after lunch.
The routes are on paved rural roads with minimal traffic. There are some options for hardpacked gravel road if you have a hybrid or touring bike. These routes are rated difficult based on a couple of mountain passes BUT walking your bike uphill is certainly allowed - or we can arrange to transport you to the top, in which case the routes are rated easy (and fun!).
