IN GENERAL, Dulles is going to be the preferred, most convenient, and most cost effective airport to fly into.  Charlottesville Airport is located twenty minutes to Barboursville, but has limited service.  For private pilots, several airports are available which we can provide transportation to/from the start/finish of the tour (we will look at individual costs should this arise).
 
Best of VA Bike Tour - Tour Van - Airport Transportation:
Positive- Lower Cost, Capable of Carrying Bikes, Seamless, Can be added to tour cost        Negative- Only one time offered
Only available from Dulles Airport or surrounding Airport Hotels (unless group of 5 or more is arriving at another airport).  Cost is $250 per van each way, whether we are transporting one or ten passengers. 

Arrival: We pick up from surrounding hotels at approximately 2 pm and at Dulles Airport at 2:30 pm, with the intent of arriving at our destination between 4 and 5 pm.   

Transportation options:

Enterprise Rental Car: (estimated cost)

Rental Car to/from airport only:  This is only feasible from Richmond International to Barboursville since Barboursville is the only location with a rental drop off close by and Dulles is in a different region, not allowing drop off of the rental car in Barboursville.  The cost of this is approximately $90 each way. Positive- Lowest Cost    Negative- Only available Richmond to Barboursville, logistically more difficult

Weekly rental:  This is currently approximately $400 for a mid-sized vehicle, but can frequently be less if you have corporate accounts with rental car companies.  Positive-Great if spouse not riding, set your own schedule    Negative-Highest Cost

Airport Limousine Service: (estimated cost)

Positive- Can be cost effective, share cost with other participants, easy, on your schedule    Negative- Can be expensive
These are independent transportation companies that will transport by reservation and charge per vehicle, not per person.  You will have flexibility in when they will be able to go, but will pay more.  Please make contact with airport limousine companies for exact pricing.

When we have multiple participants traveling from out of town, we will work in advance to try to co-ordinate shared limousine service in order to defray costs.
