Tour 10 The Missions Tour
Monday, September 13 - Sunday, September 19  Six Night /  Seven Days

The Missions Tour-
Something totally different in a vacation- You get away from your every day routine and help others to survive their every day.  Last spring we went on a family cruise and spent a couple of hours in port in Mexico playing with kids at an orphanage, then we went to Mexico on a missions trip this past year and built two homes for families in need.  We came out of that with a desire to go back every year (that is why our June calendar is so wide open), but also to make a difference in our community.  This tour is a growth out of that.  We willhave daily rides, but in each of the three communities we will be staying, we will serve in a local, Christian ministry.

This itinerary is very preliminary, but you will see that we are trying our best to allow you the opportunity to minister to and be ministered to, through missions, while still providing you with a complete bicycle tour vacation.  Some of the missions projects we will be working on may not even exist today.  We will be working with local Christian organizations in the Front Royal, Charlottesville and Nelson Counties areas to identify needs in those communities.  As we do, this page will be updated, but these ministry opportunities should fit into the following itinerary:

Day One:
Arrive at Linden’s Mount Welby, a property over 200 years old that will take your breath away with the original woodwork and fireplaces throughout, yet with the modern touches of luxury master bath and gourmet kitchen.  You will have the opportunity to do a short ride at around 5 pm if you choose, getting you acquainted with the other riders, your abilities with others, and basic knowledge of the Garmin GPS.  When you return, appetizers will be served, and dinner will follow at 7:30, allowing time for late arrivals.   Enjoy the evening by the patio fireplace, take a dip in the hot tub, or enjoy the serenity of the manicured gardens.  Tonight we will be visited by tomorrows Missionary organizers to talk about tomorrow events

Day Two:

Today is our first day of Missions Work.  We will get an early start today, leaving by eight so we can get a full day in. We will be doing missions work in Front Royal today.  Getting back to Welby by 4:30 we will have light snacks waiting and jump on the bikes by 5 pm for those who still have the energy.  Dinner will be at 8 pm tonight allowing the most time possible for a full day of missions and a good ride.

Day Three:

Transfer day to Morningside Guest Cottage near Afton Mountain.  This is a beautiful ride through the most popular riding are of Thomas Jefferson’s Charlottesville area.  You will experience rolling hills following the Eastern boundary to the Shenandoah National Park.  This will be a fun Rural Virginia Tour where you will quickly realize why the Charlottesville area consistently ranks as one of the top places to live, raise families, and bicycle in America.  Tonight we will be visited by the missions organization Advancing Native Missions, telling us about tomorrows project and the work of ANM.

Day Four:

Today is our second day of Missions Work and again we will get an early start today, leaving by eight so we can get a full day in. We will be doing missions work in Nelson County at Advancing Native Missions.  Getting back to Morningside by 4:30 we will have light snacks waiting and jump on the bikes by 5 pm for those who still have the energy.  Dinner will be at 8 pm tonight allowing the most time possible for a full day of missions and a good ride.

Day Five:

Transition day to Barboursville's Flutterby Fields.  We will enjoy today riding the Southern portion of Skyline Drive.  You will have the option of leaving from Morningside and riding to Skyline then continuing from Swift Run Gap to Barboursville, providing a full Century Ride, or keep it simple and Ride forty miles of Skyline from Rockfish Gap to Swift Run Gap.  Tonight we will be cleaning up and enjoying dinner on Charlottesville's great Downtown Mall.  Ray Kline will be joining us from Love INC (Love in the Name of Christ) to introduce us to this interdenominational Christian ministry and introduce us to the family/families we will be helping tomorrow.

Day Six:

Today is our third day of Missions Work and again we will get an early start today, leaving by eight so we can get a full day in. We will be doing missions work in Charlottesville community today.  Getting back to Morningside by 4:30 we will have light snacks waiting and jump on the bikes by 5 pm for those who still have the energy.  Dinner will be at 8 pm tonight allowing the most time possible for a full day of missions and a good ride.

Day Seven:

It is back home today.  We will either be transporting you back to your vehicle or providing sag.  You can ride the thirty-five miles of Skyline Drive from Swift Run Gap to Thornton Gap or do the distance taking the climb from Barboursville to Skyline Drive, join the rest of the riders, and continuing from Thornton Gap back to your vehicle.
